“This is your moment, it belongs to you…This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country…The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.”
“At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction, that a nation exists to serve its citizens.”
“Through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other. When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.”
– President Donald J. Trump
A historic day. A historic moment. A historic speech.
And so it was that Donald J. Trump became the 45th President of the United States.
President Trump’s speech was direct, without great flourish or length – every word important. President Trump did not single out Democrats – he singled out Washington. This was not a speech against the right or left, conservatives or liberals – this was a speech against government – an establishment grown bloated, stale and aloof – ignorant and uncaring of the daily struggles and hardships of its citizens.
This was a speech against every single politician seated behind President Trump. And you saw it on their faces. It stung and it burned. A warning shot was fired today and it detonated – it reverberated – over the bow of the political establishment.
Our nation’s peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our Republic – and marks us as no other country in the world. This speech was a peaceful transfer of power – from government back to its citizens.
Change brings uncertainty and fear. And knowing this, President Trump spoke the words; “There should be no fear. We are protected and we will always be protected.”
It was a memorable moment. It was a memorable speech.
Speeches are made and speeches are forgotten. This speech will be remembered by many.
President Trump’s initial base was “the forgotten man”. He remembered them. He let them know they had not been left behind in the victory of the election. These hard working men and women were with him in the moment – they were remembered – they were held up – and they were empowered.
This was a speech not meant for any politician. This was a speech for citizens.
President Trump referred to himself only twice – and both times were a promise to the people of the United States:
“The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans”
“I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never let you down”
President Trump is no politician’s President. And Washington has now been warned. They will remember this speech.
As will we all.
