I cannot think of two groups less qualified to pontificate on…well…anything… than professional athletes and Hollywood actors.
Yet it seems we are routinely preached at – vociferously – by these very two groups.
On Morals, Social Justice Causes and Politics – especially Politics.
Which makes the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment – and now rape – allegations all the more tragically comic.
These are people who have lived a singularity of life.
Always a singular focus. A singular pursuit.
Often with little education outside of their narrow arenas – coupled with a complete lack of familiarity to anything resembling an economics textbook.
Coddled and affirmed within their little life bubbles, these people have no idea what “normal” even is.
And yet they preach.
Peggy Noonan of the WSJ said it best:
I’m tired of being lectured to by my inferiors.
But also equally accurate.
It’s always been known that Hollywood is rife with sexual predation and harassment. Darker allegations of sexual abuse of minors have lingered around the edges.
The term Casting Couch wasn’t invented for steelworkers.
All of which runs a bit counter to Hollywood’s public stance regarding women’s rights and feminism.
But then again, Hollywood put the H in Hypocrite.
Or as Thomas Wictor noted when speaking of Hollywood Celebs – and Weinstein in particular:
“All that matters to leftists is that the correct words be spoken. Saying the right things gives you freedom to be a monster.”
Which brings me back to Weinstein.
I’d heard of his long-standing reputation for sexual harassment decades ago. I’m guessing you did too.
Weinstein’s behavior was such an open secret I was actually a bit surprised at the reaction. Seth McFarland joked about it at the 2013 Oscars when he announced the female nominees:
“Congratulations, you five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.”
I guess having the story placed in the New York Times changes things a bit – makes it all a little less… funny.
Hollywood isn’t used to exposure of that kind. Hollywood is used to being protected by the media.
Things are different now.
The Rules have changed.
One of the many gifts of Trump’s Presidency. A non-stop cycle of exposure.
The masks are falling off.
I am therefore making the easiest prediction I have ever made.
Harvey Weinstein is just the big, blubbery tip of the ugly iceberg that’s coming for the good ship Hollywood.
Hollywood is in a state of panic unlike any I have seen.
Celebrities are falling all over themselves to condemn Weinstein – while they simultaneously pull various muscle groups trying to explain how they had absolutely no idea about his decades-long history of sexual predation.
Take, for example, this statement from Ben Affleck:
— Ben Affleck (@BenAffleck) October 10, 2017
Affleck has known Weinstein from the very start of his career.
Perhaps you could have spoken up.
You knew about Weinstein.
Guessing you knew about Casey too.
— Jeff Carlson, CFA (@themarketswork) October 10, 2017
In case you were unaware, there have been allegations of sexual misbehavior on the part of his much more talented younger brother, Casey Affleck.
Give a quick google. Or check out this article.
Then, of course, we had the much anticipated and long-delayed statement from that pillar of feminism, Hillary Clinton:
Statement from Secretary Clinton on Harvey Weinstein: pic.twitter.com/L1l2wl9l0I
— Nick Merrill (@NickMerrill) October 10, 2017
I found her statement disingenuous:
Only took a week.
Maybe next week we’ll get a statement from her on Slick Willy…

Meryl Streep – who has collaborated on several films and once called Weinstein “God” – had this to say:
The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.
One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.
Jessica Chastain had a slightly different take:
I was warned from the beginning. The stories were everywhere. To deny that is to create an enviornment for it to happen again.
— Jessica Chastain (@jes_chastain) October 9, 2017
Ms. Chastain had the courage to say what everybody – and I mean everybody – already knew.
Most widely kept secret in Hollywood

Here’s another way to look at things.
Everyone in Hollywood either knew about Weinstein and were implicitly covering for him – along with plenty of other sexual predators – or they were so laughably oblivious and ignorant they missed what even non-Hollywood folks knew.
These Celebrities are either lying or catastrophically stupid.
Or they simply lack the capacity to recognize immorality when it’s staring them in the face.
Either way, they are completely invalidated.
Why would you ever again pay the slightest attention to their opinions?
Hopefully, you never did.
People in Hollywood are running scared. They are terrified.
They should be.
This is just the beginning.
President Trump has already exposed Liberals and the Democratic Party for what they really are – screeching and corrupt, lacking in any actual policy measures.
Democrats are the new Walking Dead.
The Media has been exposed as nothing more than a sloppy PR Division of the DNC.
RINO’s in the GOP are now widely recognized as thinly disguised Democrats.
The NFL is desperately wishing they had never heard the words “Anthem” and “Protest”.
Hollywood is next.
And the dominoes are going to fall in a scattered spiral.
I can’t wait.
Winter is Coming…
