Perkins Coie Lawyer Michael Sussmann’s Coordinated Leaks to Media and FBI’s James Baker, Likely Came From Steele, Fusion GPS

October 5, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

An analysis of documents suggests that Michael Sussmann, a lawyer for Perkins Coie—which had been retained by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign—was feeding information to FBI General Counsel James Baker and at least one journalist ahead of the FBI’s application for a FISA warrant on the Trump campaign.

The information provided by Sussmann could have been used by the FBI as “corroborating information.” This is particularly troubling given that the main source of the Russia-collusion allegations, former British spy Christopher Steele, had been hired by Perkins Coie—the law firm Sussmann works for.Continue Reading

Why Are the Brennan, Comey, and Rogers Transcripts Being Withheld?

October 3, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

The House Intelligence Committee voted on Friday, Sept. 28, to release a number of transcripts taken from interviews during their investigation into election interference from Russia. The move by the committee had been previously disclosed in a Sept. 16 interview with Devin Nunes on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

A significant number of man-hours and effort went into the preparation of the committee’s report—including the review of 7,292 pages of testimony.

As part of their investigation, the House committee noted that they interviewed 73 individuals, resulting in 55 transcribed interviews. The report also indicated that seven witnesses had invoked their Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination.Continue Reading

Did Former Feinstein Staffer Have Involvement With Fusion GPS During 2016 Elections?

October 1, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

In a March 8, 2018, op-ed for the Daily Caller titled, The Ever-Changing ‘Russia Narrative’ Is False Public Manipulation, Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska noted how “the disintegration of evidence-based journalism permits a surprisingly small number of individuals to destroy bilateral or multilateral relations.”

Deripaska then described an unusual meeting that took place on March 16, 2017, between his lawyer and a former intelligence staffer for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) named Dan Jones:Continue Reading

Jeff Flake’s Capitulation, Democrat Delay Tactics, and the Strategic Addition of Lawyer Bromwich

September 28, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

During Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have repeatedly called for an FBI Investigation of events surrounding Dr. Ford’s claim that she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh when they were both in high school.

Judge Kavanaugh has already been through six FBI background investigations, including one for his nomination to the Supreme Court. The others occurred as Kavanaugh was appointed to previous significant positions.Continue Reading

An Unexpected Voice (Sort of)

September 28, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Boy, you all want power. God, I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham. – Lindsey Graham to Democrat Senators – September 27, 2018

During Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, Lindsey Graham gave a voice to what many were thinking.Continue Reading

The UK and Australia Have Reason to be Concerned About Declassification

September 26, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Foreign intel agencies played crucial role in creation of Russia-collusion narrative

President Donald Trump last week received phone calls from two allies saying, “please, can we talk.” Those “allies” were almost certainly the UK and Australia.

The high-level calls were most likely coordinated and related entirely to President Trump’s recent declassification order.

The message appears to have been simple and direct. As President Trump noted, “key Allies called to ask not to release.”

These calls should be receiving far more attention than they have.Continue Reading

September 25, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

We’ve all seen example of the various texts between former FBI Agent Peter Strzok and FBI Counsel Lisa Page. One thing remains constant throughout the public versions of their interactions—the heavy use of redactions.Continue Reading

The Art of War: How President Trump Gained Significant Leverage With Declassification Order

September 21, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Last night President Trump made a brief but very important disclosure during a live interview with Sean Hannity while at a rally in Las Vegas. Hannity asked the president about the pending release of declassified documents. Here is how the president responded:

Well, we’re moving along, we’re working along. We’re also dealing with foreign countries that do have a problem. I must tell you. I got called today from two very good allies saying, “please, can we talk.” So, it’s not as simple as all that. And we do have to respect their wishes. But it will all come out.Continue Reading

Democrat Letter Raises Serious Constitutional Concerns—and Some Serious Questions

September 20, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

On Sept. 18, the four Democratic members of the Gang of Eight sent out what can only be described as a highly unusual and inflammatory letter, addressed to the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray.Continue Reading

The Insurance Policy

September 19, 2018 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Ever since the release of FBI text messages revealing the existence of an “insurance policy,” the term has been the subject of wide speculation.

Some have said that the insurance policy was the FISA spy warrant used to monitor Trump campaign adviser Carter Page—and, by extension, other members of the Trump campaign. This interpretation is too narrow and fails to capture the underlying meaning of the text.Continue Reading
