Those who’ve followed me for a bit or are readers of my blog are probably aware I’m fully in favor of free trade. I’m also in favor of President Trump’s use of tariffs as a negotiating tool.Continue Reading

Analyzing the Trump Indictment
By Hans Mahncke (originally published on June 12, 2023)
On June 9, 2023, special counsel Jack Smith unveiled a 38-count indictment of former President Donald Trump and Waltine Nauta, a personal valet who works at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The first 31 counts relate to Trump alone and involve charges under the Espionage Act.
Of the remaining counts, five charge Trump and Nauta jointly with regard to the concealing of documents subject to a grand jury subpoena. The final two counts, one of which charges Trump and the other Nauta, pertain to making false statements. In total, Trump is charged with 37 counts in the indictment and Nauta with six counts.Continue Reading
An Illustrative Twitter Chat with David & Glenn
The social justice people are always on the side of compassion and ‘victim’s rights,’ so objecting to anything they do makes you instantly a perpetrator. The thing is if you replace compassion with resentment, then you understand the authoritarian left. There is resentment, fundamentally. – Dr. Jordan Peterson
I had planned on another topic for the day but a debate on twitter caught my attention. And my initially one-sided participation.
The two engaged participants were both journalists – David French of National Review and Glenn Greenwald of The Intercept.
David French had written what I found to be an articulate and thoughtful article in response to twitter outrage over an earlier article on Chelsea Manning – the trans soldier pardoned by Obama. French’s first piece, titled Chelsea Manning’s Release is Nothing to Celebrate, took issue with the release of Manning. I agree with French’s position. But that wasn’t what sparked the outraged responses. It was French’s refusal to use the pronoun “her” when describing Chelsea Manning – previously Bradley Manning – in his initial article.
And the backlash was fierce.Continue Reading
John Brennan’s Role in the FBI’s Trump-Russia Investigation
In the summer of 2016, Robert Hannigan, head of Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with then-CIA Head John Brennan regarding alleged communications between the Trump Campaign and Moscow.
That summer, GCHQ’s then head, Robert Hannigan, flew to the US to personally brief CIA chief John Brennan. The matter was deemed so important that it was handled at “director level”, face-to-face between the two agency chiefs.
The meeting between Hannigan and Brennan appears somewhat…unusual.Continue Reading

Liberal Causes & Sudden Insights – Why Facts Fail
“We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it” – Nancy Pelosi
Do you ever wonder why the Left always seems so unanimous? How Democrats seem to circle the wagons around their own while Republicans seem a more fractious bunch? I have been exploring the differences between the Left and the Right in general, and specifically in two earlier pieces, The Left and the Right – Shoulds and Coulds and Liberals, Conservatives and Fiscal Choices. Here are a few of the earlier thoughts I had on the matter:
Most on the Left start with good intentions and end in poor implementation.
Conservatives favor issues. Liberals favor causes.
Conservatives argue with logic. Liberals argue with emotion.
Conservatives are fiscally focused. Liberals are socially focused.
Conservatives think Government is the problem. Liberals think Government is the solution.Continue Reading
Behind the Scenes of the Natural Origin Narrative
By Jeff Carlson & Hans Mahncke
Originally Published 9/29/21
A sequence of events in early 2020 suggest that Dr. Anthony Fauci and a small group of scientists sought to promote the natural origins theory as a means to avoid public scrutiny of the possibility that COVID-19 had leaked from a lab.
Fauci received several warnings in late Jan. 2020 that prompted him to hold a private teleconference on Feb. 1, 2020. Emails from participants show that during this teleconference, the two main presenters made clear to the teleconference group that they believed it was a real possibility that COVID-19 originated from a lab.
These same presenters were simultaneously completing an article, later known as Proximal Origin, which publicly promoted the Natural Origins theory and dismissed any lab leak theories. Proximal Origin, which would prove to be highly influential, would be viewed more than half a million times and has been extensively used by Fauci and the corporate media in their promotion of the natural origins narrative.Continue Reading
Tragedy, Politics & Gun Control
You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before – Rahm Emanuel
It only took a matter of hours – after the worse mass shooting in our nation’s history – for the Left’s politicization of the tragedy to begin. Hysterical clamoring for Gun Control coupled with blame for the NRA was sadly predictable – and seemed to take precedent over the horrors of the actual event. Outrage over the issue of silencers was a bit more unusual – but politically timely due to a bill before Congress.Continue Reading
The Larger Impact of the GameStop Investor Wars
Investors and observers alike have been watching the incredible price movement and volatility escalation of the retail gaming company GameStop (GME). On Jan. 11, the stock closed just under $20 per share. On Jan. 28, it traded as high as $450 per share intraday and closed at $193.60.
The stock is currently trading around $350 per share in after-market hours.
At the heart of the incredible price movement lies an intense tug of war between retail investors and at least one large hedge fund—although there have been a number of other hedge funds circling the situation and involved in a variety of capacities. Melvin Capital had established a large short position in GameStop, betting the company’s stock price would fall.Continue Reading
AG Barr Says Epstein Case Will Continue, Says ‘Co-conspirators Should Not Rest Easy’
FBI agents raid Epstein’s Little St. James Island
Attorney General William Barr said on Monday during a police conference in New Orleans that there were “serious irregularities” at the Manhattan federal facility where the accused sex trafficker apparently killed himself over the weekend.
Barr, who said he was “appalled” by Epstein’s death, said the case would continue and noted that “any co-conspirators should not rest easy.”
“This sex-trafficking case was very important to the Department of Justice and to me personally, Barr said. It was important to the dedicated prosecutors in the Southern District of New York and to our FBI agents who investigated the case and were preparing it for trial. Most importantly, this case was important to the victims who had the courage to come forward and deserve the opportunity to confront the accused in the courtroom.”Continue Reading
