A Climate Change Echo Chamber

September 2, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

My past two posts have revolved around Climate Change – and those who promote it through misleading representations.

In Oreskes’ Exxon Study, CAI & Five Years of Coordinated Climate Deception, I show how the Climate Accountability Institute and the Union of Concerned Scientists came up with a long-term plan in 2012, to go after Exxon for carbon emissions – using tactics learned from Tobacco Litigation.

The  official report from that 2012 meeting, Establishing Accountability for Climate Change Damages: Lessons from Tobacco Control, makes for very interesting reading and contains a surprising amount of quotes from the original workshop.

It serves as a generalized transcript.

In the process of compiling my article I went through twitter accounts from various climate activists.

What I found was a well-orchestrated – and intertwined – Echo Chamber.Continue Reading

Politicizing Harvey – A Hurricane Portrayed as Climate Change

August 29, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Hurricane Harvey brought devastating rain and floods to Texas.

It also brought the same repeated claims of Climate Change that seem to accompany every major hurricane.

Now is the time to say it as loudly as possible: Harvey is what climate change looks like. https://t.co/MTvWJ6LRLd

Oreskes’ Exxon Study, CAI & Five Years of Coordinated Climate Deception

August 27, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

We redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy – Ottmar Edenhofer, then co-chairman of Working Group III of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Naomi Oreskes recently completed a study, Assessing ExxonMobil’s Climate Change Communications. The study concludes with the following statement:

Available documents show a discrepancy between what ExxonMobil’s scientists and executives discussed about climate change privately and in academic circles and what it presented to the general public.

Several recent articles appeared in the LA Times, the Washington Post and the New York Times regarding the study and its conclusions.

I recognized Oreskes name so with some prodding, I decided to take a closer look.Continue Reading

Political Spectrums in a Time of Labels

August 21, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

The Charlottesville riots resulted in a resurgence of extremist political labels. Suddenly, everyone is being called something – Fascist, Nazis, Communist. Alt-Right or Alt-Left.

Labels are easily applied. They are not so easily removed.

Which is exactly why the Left employs them so readily. Identity politics – pursued through a liberal media.

Equally often, labels are used to hide true political intent.

With this in mind, I thought it worthwhile to take a quick visit into the political spectrum. Most believe they understand their personal ideologies and grasp the ideologies of others, but ideologies are often hidden – disguised in words intended to deceive.

Before we go further, I ask that you at least glance at all four charts. Each has their merits. I strongly favor the last.Continue Reading

Bannon, Democrats & a Recent Poll

August 18, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

“I built a f***ing machine at Breitbart. And now I’m about to go back, knowing what I know, and we’re about to rev that machine up. And rev it up we will do.” – Steve Bannon

Bannon is out.

This had been forecast for a couple weeks – and became a near certainty given his recent interview with American Prospect.

Reports indicate Bannon submitted his resignation two weeks ago – perhaps after realizing an inevitable ouster was forthcoming.

Democrats should not be cheering the move.

Bannon Unleashed is a formidable force to be reckoned with. He can almost certainly accomplish more outside the White House than from within.Continue Reading

Reframed – Trump’s Press Conference, Antifa & the Left

August 16, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Charlottesville was recently the site of great ugliness.

One that hid a larger battle lurking just beneath the surface.

The real battle was not limited to racism – although that element was clearly on display.

The real battle was over Free Speech and our Constitution. Our Institutions and our way of life.

There are many Americans – myself included – who oppose tearing down historical monuments. We support Freedom of Speech and don’t believe in whitewashing the past. We also found the displays of racism, violence and suppression of speech in Charlottesville – from all sides – as completely repugnant. That doesn’t make us Nazis or fascists.

But some would have it seem so.Continue Reading

Unnecessary Ugliness in Charlottesville

August 13, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

White Supremacists rallying in Charlottesville to oppose a plan to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee.

Groups with well-established histories of violence preparing for the event in advance.

What could possibly go wrong?

Antifa – famous for their riots, attacks and anarchy – made it clear they would be at the rally in force.Continue Reading

A Memo to Google

August 8, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

“The conversations that are the most curative are simultaneously the ones that are most difficult and most dangerous.” – Dr. Jordan Peterson

A Google Engineer, 28 year-old James Damore, wrote a memo titled Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber – How Bias Clouds Our Thinking About Diversity and Inclusion. For that act, he was first castigated and then fired. You can find his full, unedited, memo – complete with charts that are conveniently missing from most sources –  here.

Damore’s memo contained three primary contentions:Continue Reading

An Interesting Interview with Rod Rosenstein

August 7, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein gave an interview to Chris Wallace on August 6, 2017. The interview contained some very interesting comments on the DOJ’s investigations into leaking. Even more interesting were comments made regarding the Mueller Investigation. The full video is below:

Trump, McMaster & Trust

August 5, 2017 by Jeff Carlson, CFA

Over the past several days, there has been a suspicious buildup of voices calling for the firing of National Security Advisor Lt. Gen H.R. McMaster. It started on Twitter and quickly spilled into the MSM. It’s not the first time this has happened. There was a big push for McMaster’s ouster back in May 2017, as well.

The accusations leveled at McMaster are many, but they generally boil down to this. He’s a Globalist, anti-Israel – and opposes many of President Trump’s policies.

He’s been accused of firing behind-the-scenes Trump loyalists, particularly Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence on the National Security Council – a man about which very little is actually known.

That McMaster has fired these people is fact. The loyalties and motives of those fired is not.Continue Reading
